Calling all Bacillus cereus group researchers! Participate in the BTyperDB project! đź“Ł
🔬 Are you a Bacillus cereus group researcher who utilizes whole-genome sequencing (WGS) in your work?
♻️ Are you interested in making B. cereus group genomic (meta)data more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable)?
🌍 Do you want to receive credit for making your genomic (meta)data available to the public?
You’re welcome to join us as part of the BTyperDB Metadata Curation Consortium!
BTyperDB is our community-curated, global atlas of B. cereus group genomes. We developed BTyperDB because we noticed that existing pathogen genome databases were inadequate–and potentially dangerous!–when used for B. cereus group surveillance. We decided to construct our own database by assembling THOUSANDS of novel B. cereus group genomes; this allowed us to nearly double the number of publicly available B. cereus group genomes! In Phase 1 of the project, our curation team spent thousands of hours manually curating and standardizing metadata for EVERY SINGLE GENOME!
Now that we have entered Phase 2 of the project, we want to give (meta)data generators the opportunity to participate by validating and/or correcting their genomic metadata. We’ve recently reached out to hundreds of B. cereus group (meta)data generators via email; however, with so many B. cereus group genomes out there, maybe we missed you! If you’d like to participate, feel free to contact us!
